I've been pumped to read Marked ever since I heard about its release a year ago. Sarah Fine's one of my favorite authors, and Marked is book one in her first adult series. While she's known for her young adults novels, after reading this book I think she's proven she can write for any audience.

Marked follows paramedic partners Cacy Ferry and Eli Margolis as they try to save lives and survive in a futuristic and devastated version of Boston. They also have to fight their intense attraction to one another and deal with the deadly secrets Cacy and her powerful family are hiding. Cacy and Eli were both awesome characters. I loved how accepting they were of each other and how their relationship developed from friendship to romance. I especially enjoyed the romance. It got really hot and steamy at times! I also appreciated how protective and close they were with their siblings. Good relationships between siblings are something I haven't seen much in the books I've read, so it's always nice and memorable when I do.

Marked was a fun and exciting start to a new series involving family politics and the afterlife. As soon as I finished it, I could not wait to pick up the next book Claimed! If you love adult books in the paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres, I definitely recommend this series to you.

Claimed is book two in the Servants of Fate series, and I thought it was even better than Marked! I felt that the world became more unique and the characters more fascinating in this book. It was just an unputdownable read!

While Marked was about Eli and Cacy, this time the story revolved around Eli's sister Galena and Cacy's brother Declan. Galena is a scientist, working on finding cures for the diseases ravaging the world, and Declan is a paramedic, part of the powerful Ferry clan, who wants to honor his father's dying wish of protecting Galena in order to save the future. We met Galena and Declan in the previous book, and it was clear from the beginning that they were going to have a deep, emotional bond. What happened to Galena and her brother years ago was devastating and traumatizing, and I'm glad Galena had someone as patient and protective as Declan at her side. They worked so well together, and their relationship was sweet and intense. I honestly couldn't get enough!

After reading Claimed, it's no surprise I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the final book Fated. (I hope a certain intriguing Kere is one of the main characters!) This series is set in a harsh, yet captivating world full of wonderful characters, non-stop action, and amazing relationships. I highly recommend it!

Mini Review:
I started with this novella to see how I would take to the series, and sadly I'm not impressed.

Even though I guiltily enjoyed this book, it reads like beginner/intermediate fanfiction. The writing seemed blocky, and I felt like someone had a thesaurus sitting next to them trying to expand on the vocabulary usage. Let me tell you that this can be a good and bad thing.

I'm still trying to decide if I'll give the actual series a shot, but if I do I'll be sure to post a review.

Reviews: Shatter by Erin McCarthy & Vigilante by Sarah Fine

I'm a fan of Erin McCarthy's True Believers series. I think this series contains some of the more unique new adult storylines out there. That being said, Shatter could not hold up to my expectations. In fact, I didn't find it to be all that memorable compared to the rest of the books in the series.

I was really looking forward to reading Kylie and Jonathan's story, especially since it involved pregnancy, which I don't believe I see much of in new adult books. However, Kylie and Jonathan weren't interesting characters to me. And for some reason, I couldn't bring myself to believe in their relationship. I just wasn't feeling the chemistry between them. Basically, I had no emotional connection to them or their story. There were things that surprised and shocked me, but in the end, I was left feeling unsatisfied with this final book.

Although Shatter may not have lived up to my expectations, I would still recommend the series to those who love new adult books. And I would still definitely recommend Shatter to True Believers fans. You might enjoy it a whole lot more than I did!

Vigilante by Sarah Fine

I was upset for days after finishing Fractured, book two in Sarah Fine's Guards of the Shadowlands series. It ended on a devastating cliffhanger that broke my heart to pieces. When it was announced there was a short story from Ana's perspective that could be read before the release of the final book Chaos, I was ecstatic. Ana is awesome, and I've been wondering what happened to her after the events in book one Sanctum.

Vigilante gave plenty of insight into Ana's character and had answers to questions I've been wondering about since the first book. Including more information about the other worlds that have been mentioned in the first two books and Ana's relationship with Takeshi. It also gave a glimpse as to what happened to a certain character after the end of Fractured. This story covered a lot more than I was hoping for, which made me feel so grateful, and at the same time, it left me craving for Chaos even more.

Vigilante may be a short story, but it was full of the powerful emotions and action that I've come to expect from this amazing series. It is a definite must read if you have read Fractured and are dying for Chaos! Don't miss out!

Reviews: Four Years Later by Monica Murphy & Easy by Tammara Webber

Four Years Later is the conclusion to the One Week Girlfriend Quartet. I was excited to read it because I've always liked Owen and couldn't wait to read his story. However, I have to admit that I was disappointed in this book. Much like with Jen and Colin's story in Three Broken Promises, Owen and Chelsea's story never had the spark Drew and Fable's books had.

I think my main reason for not enjoying Four Years Later like I wanted to was because I had a difficult time connecting with Owen and Chelsea. I kept hoping and hoping I would eventually click with them, but it never happened. Chelsea didn't stand out to me, and Owen wasn't standing out like he did in the previous books. Their relationship felt instantaneous and rushed as well. The same could be said for the other couples, but at least they were believable to me. I just didn't feel much for Owen and Chelsea, and the unnecessary drama was the same old, same old.

I neither hated nor liked Four Years Later. It was just an okay read that I wished I could have loved. If you want to read this new adult quartet, I would still recommend it, especially the first two books and the novella about Drew and Fable.

Easy by Tammara Webber

Although I've always heard good things about Easy and I've even owned a copy since 2012, I was in no hurry to read it. Now I'm wondering why I waited so long to read it! Because Easy was such a wonderful story with amazing romance and characters. It has to be one of the best new adult novels out there.

There were two things I really really loved about Easy. One was the development of the romance between Jacqueline and Lucas. It was so sweet and hot and had my heart bursting from happiness. I've always had soft spot for characters who have loved someone (in this case, it was Lucas having feelings for Jacqueline) from afar. I think their relationship was done so well. The other thing I loved was Lucas. Oh my god. This guy was PERFECT. And I don't mean in a cheesy, boring way. Every time he was around Jacqueline, the scenes left me feeling breathless. He was such a sweet, caring, and amazing guy. These are the type of romances and heroes I love to read about, and I'm just so happy Jacqueline and Lucas found each other.

Like I said, I can't believe it took me so long to read this book! However, at the same time, I have to admit I'm kind of glad I decided to read it so close to the release of Breakable, the companion novel to Easy from Lucas's POV. Even though I know it's going to be heartbreaking, I can't wait to get inside of his head.

Reviews: Rush by Eve Silver & A Really Awesome Mess by Trish Cook & Brendan Halpin

I expected to like Rush a whole lot more than I did. It had a unique 'game' concept, but I didn't feel it ever really delivered. It just wasn't believable to me, and I was easily irritated with those in charge because they never gave clear cut answers.

Maybe I wouldn't have been as bothered with all that had I liked the characters. I didn't have any sort of connection to them. The protagonist Miki wasn't that bad, but I felt she was trying too hard to be tough and brave. And I thought she was quick in falling in love with Jackson, who annoyed me throughout because of his cryptic ways. I couldn't bring myself to believe in them or their romance. I'm also getting really tired of reading about the bitchy, manic best friend of the main character. Why is it always like that? In this case, it was Miki's friend Carly. I couldn't stand her. As for the rest of the characters...they pretty much fell flat to me.

Rush had an interesting premise, but I wasn't entirely convinced by either the plot or the characters. I'm glad I had a chance to read and finish it though. I just don't think it's enough for me to want to read the sequel.

A Really Awesome Mess by Trish Cook & Brendan Halpin

I didn't go in to A Really Awesome Mess with high expectations, since the reviews I had seen weren't giving it much praise. But I did hope I would be able to at least finish it. What I couldn't have predicted was how much I would enjoy the story! I really love when that happens because I had a hard time putting the book down.

The chapters alternated between the point-of-views of Emmy and Justin. Both of them were hilarious and had me cracking up so many times! They also sounded like real teenagers with real, serious issues. The relationships they built and the adventures they shared with their new friends seemed genuine and had me grinning. Because those much needed friendships clearly had a hand in helping each of them deal with their problems, even if some of their issues would never entirely go away. Overall, I thought Emmy and Justin and their group of misfit friends were great and relatable characters, and I know they were the reason why I was glued to the book and why I was having so much fun reading their story.

A Really Awesome Mess kept me entertained from beginning to end. The plot and the characters were touching and humorous. It was such a fun read! While not everything was resolved for Emmy and Justin, the ending was still fitting and satisfying. I'm so glad I gave this book a chance.

I would say Blood of the Pride managed to hold my interest, considering I was able to read it till the very end. However, I didn't think it was a stand out amongst other paranormal and urban fantasy novels I've read. I also felt that the characters weren't always consistent in the things they said. They would go on and on about the consequences of certain actions, yet later they would backtrack or change their mind. It was a little too convenient.

Blood of the Pride is book one in the series, and while I probably won't continue with it, I think if you want to give this book a shot you should go ahead and read it.

The Escape by Shoshanna Evers

Unfortunately, I didn't like The Escape. I wish I did, but nothing in the story worked for me. All the characters suffered from a serious case of TSTL (too stupid to live). It must be one of those highly contagious diseases people are catching at the FEMA camps mentioned in the book. Because whoa. Their reasoning for doing some of the things they did made zero sense. They rarely used logic. It was unbelievable and a bit hilarious. I have no idea how they managed to survive everything that happened in this book, and I can't comprehend how they're even still living after the 'Pulse,' which happened a year ago and is the reason technology and most humans in America were wiped out. I guess these people are seriously lucky or everyone else around them is just dumber. Those are the only reasons that make sense to me.

I don't want to end this without saying at least something good about The Escape. So, I've thought of three things I liked. One would be that, although I haven't read the first book and all the books in the trilogy are connected, I didn't feel lost while reading this sequel. I was also able to read this fairly quickly. It was easy to get through. The final thing would be that I didn't get a headache, even though I wasn't enjoying it.

If you're still interested in reading this book or the entire trilogy, then that's your choice. I'm not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't read. But as for me, The Escape just wasn't for me, and I don't have any plans to read the other books.

I didn't know what to expect from The Winner's Curse. It wasn't originally on my radar, and I only became curious about it once I started to notice all the great reviews it was receiving. After getting the chance to read it myself, I can understand why so many are praising this book.

Kestrel, a high-class Valorian and the general's daughter, and Arin, a Herrani slave purchased by Kestrel at an auction, were the main characters. They may have grown up in different worlds, but they were similar in many ways. Both were sympathetic people, full of quiet strength and determination, wishing for the freedom to live their lives the way they wanted to. I just found it so easy to like them. I also loved how their relationship evolved. They didn't always get along, yet there was a connection between them that made them open up to one another little by little. It was precious and sweet. They each had their secrets though, and it led to devastating revelations and consequences. I have no idea how they will overcome that, but I hope that whatever happens next they are able to survive it together.

I'm so glad I took a chance and read The Winner's Curse because I was immersed in the story from the very beginning. Although it was a bit slow-going at times, it didn't stop me from enjoying it overall, and I'm already eagerly anticipating the release of the sequel.

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf by Ambelin Kwaymullina

After reading a couple of chapters, I began to realize that I didn't find the story to be as enthralling as I had hoped. I decided to keep reading, though, just to see what happened to the characters. And I'm so happy I did because The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf ended up being a satisfying read.

To me, the beginning of the book started off as if it was a sequel, not the first book in a series, and I think that's why my feelings about it were shaky. However, flashbacks were eventually added to the mixed, and it made me see that the way the book began was necessary for all the revelations that were to come. I was hooked from that moment on! But as I mentioned before, I have the characters, especially the protagonist Ashala, to thank for being the reason why I continued reading. There wasn't anything about Ashala I disliked. I admired her courage and strength, and all I wanted was for her to survive the ordeals she faced so that she could protect her Tribe and the rest of those with special abilities. The way things went down were unexpected and shocking, and I gained even more respect for Ashala and the others who did everything they could to help her.

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf was a story set in the future about friendship, love, and protecting the innocent. It was filled with unique mythology, consisting of people with special abilities, spirits and animals that could communicate with humans. The ending brought enough closure, but there's definitely still more to explore. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

After enjoying the previous books, True and Sweet, in the series, I was looking forward to reading book 3. Believe centered on Robin, a friend of Rory and Jessica, and Phoenix, the cousin of Tyler and Riley. The book featured both of their POVs, so I couldn't wait to find out how much I would like getting inside both their heads.

I liked Robin from the start. She changed a lot after a terrible mistake she made back in the summer, and I could feel her vulnerability and regret. It was easy to sympathize with her, especially since she was such a nice and caring person. I also liked how accepting she was of Phoenix because, I admit, I worried about how I would feel about him. He didn't leave me with the best impression in the very beginning. He had just gotten out of jail and he didn't exactly get along with Jessica, one of my favorites in the series. However, he truly proved himself like his cousins did in the other books. He was a wonderful, protective and good guy. As for Robin and Phoenix's relationship, I loved it! It was hot, sweet, and perfect, and I was completely satisfied with the way it developed.

Believe was yet another great addition to the True Believers series. I stayed up as late as I could to finish it, and I was a bit bummed out when it was over because I was enjoying Robin and Phoenix's story so much. Shatter will be the final book in the series, and I'm glad there's at least one more book to look forward to. Can't wait to read it!

Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy

After being blown away by One Week Girlfriend and having my heart crushed by the ending, I could not wait to devour the sequel Second Chance Boyfriend. While the first book is my still favorite since it had my emotions all over the place, this sequel was the perfect conclusion to Drew and Fable's whirlwind love story.

In the beginning, I worried it would take awhile before Drew and Fable reconciled, but thankfully it didn't take long, which was a nice parallel to how hard and fast they fell for each other in the previous book. Their connection was still as powerful and deep, and their love for each other was all kinds of hot. It made me extremely happy! Their relationship wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though. I'm actually glad because they needed to learn to truly open up and trust one another in order to move forward and be together. They just went through a lot in both books. Their story was heartbreaking and emotional, yet beautiful and hopeful. It feels so good to know two deserving people found love, comfort, and peace with each other.

Second Chance Boyfriend was everything a Drew and Fable fan could have hoped for and more. I couldn't get enough of their moments, and the ending left me with a smile on face. It makes me really excited to continue on with the next book in the series, Jen and Colin's story Three Broken Promises. It sounds good!

Reviews: The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead & Blood Phantom by Rhiannon Hart

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

When Richelle Mead said that The Fiery Heart would be her hottest novel yet, I had a good idea of what would happen between Sydney and Adrian. Thing is, I didn't realize exactly how often the hotness would sizzle through the pages, if you know what I mean. Since they are one of my favorite couples, it made me extremely happy.

I absolutely loved getting inside Adrian's head. I was surprised by how many of the romantic moments were in his perspective. He really has a way with words, and it was great getting his thoughts on Sydney because she seemed to be one of the very few bright spots in his life. His ever-growing relationship with Sydney may have been the focus of the novel, but of course there's more revelations about the Alchemists, Sydney's magic, and Adrian's spirit ability. I'm looking forward to seeing all that and more collide in the next book.

The ending of the book was heartbreaking. What happened was something that many of us may have been anticipating, but how it goes down is emotional and unexpected. I already can't wait to read more about Sydney and Adrian's growth in book five Silver Shadows.

Blood Phantom by Rhiannon Hart

It's been over a year since I read book two in Rhiannon Hart's Lharmell trilogy. With it's devastating cliffhanger, it's been a long wait for the final book Blood Queen. Thankfully it looks like it will be published next year, and I'm already counting down the days to the release.

In the meantime, the author has recently given readers Blood Phantom, a prequel novella to the series from Rodden Lothskorn's perspective. I've loved Rodden since the first book, and after what happened in book two, it was nice getting a quick look inside his head and finding out what he was up to right before he met Zeraphina. It may be a short read (hey, it's a novella for a reason), but since I'm a big fan of the series and Rodden, I didn't mind at all. It just left me craving more.

If you've been eagerly anticipating the release of Blood Queen, Blood Phantom might ease the pain of waiting just a bit. Although it's a prequel, I think those who have read the series will be able to appreciate it more, so I highly recommend reading at least book one, Blood Song, before reading Blood Phantom.

It wouldn't feel right if I reviewed all the books (including the other novella) in the series and didn't also review the prequel Daimon. So here are my thoughts on Daimon after reading it back in July 2011:

I wanted to read Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series because I loved the covers. I went into this prequel novella not knowing what to expect but hoping that I would find the story to be just as appealing as the covers. I'm glad to say that it was good. REALLY good.

Looks like book one, Half-Blood, starts off right where Daimon leaves off, so I highly recommend reading Daimon if you want to have an idea of what the Covenant series is going to be like and if you want a quick introduction to the heroine of the series Alexandria Andros. I think it's a great start, and I cannot wait to read more!

Sentinel (Covenant, #5)  by Jennifer L. Armentrout

It's over. It almost feels like I'm dreaming. It's that surreal and bittersweet. Unlike the other books in the series, I savored Sentinel. I made sure I didn't read it all in one go because I didn't want the story to be over and I didn't want to let go of Alex and Aiden just yet.

Certain things that happened in the book were surprising, especially in the final chapters (I was crying, of course). But those moments led to an ending that was totally unexpected, yet utterly and completely satisfying. Sentinel is the type of conclusion I always hope for with series I read. It answered all my questions and didn't leave me feeling devastated. Even though I'm still going to miss Alex and Aiden so much, I'm happy with the conclusion they got. It was one that they both earned and deserved, and I get choked up just thinking about it. Seriously, I want to hug the author for writing an ending that left me content and smiling with tears in my eyes.

The Covenant series will always be one of my favorite series ever. I will never forget how addicting, funny, badass, and hot the entire series was. And I will never forget that it was the series that introduced me to the amazing story-telling of Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Reviews: Sweet by Erin McCarthy & All of You by Christina Lee

After reading True, I could not wait to read Sweet. I think I enjoyed this book a bit more because there was even less drama. Some situations could have led to some serious, eyeroll-worthy moments, but thankfully it never went that route, which was nice!

While Jessica and Riley were both minor characters in True, it was quite clear they were going to have an interesting relationship in Sweet. Jessica was as outgoing and straight-up as she was in the previous book; however she showed her vulnerabilities this time and opened up a lot. Riley, like his brother Tyler, really surprised me. My first impression of him was that he was going to be a bad boy, but in reality he was a hardworking guy who cared deeply about his brothers. Their banter and interactions were great to read. They were hilarious and fantastic together, and I thought they were wonderful people and a perfect match. I didn't want their story to end.

Sweet was just hard to put down. I stayed up late into the night reading it, and as soon as I woke up I had to finish the rest before I could do anything else. It was a fun and adorable new adult book that made me wish I had the next novel in the series ready to read.

All of You by Christina Lee

I've been so eager to read All of You ever since I heard about it months ago. A new adult novel where the guy is the virgin? Heck yeah! I needed to read this! As soon as I was able to get my hands on it, I started reading it, and I was intrigued from the very beginning. However, I must admit I wasn't as connected as I had hoped as the story progressed.

All of You revolved around Avery and her trying hard not to fall for her gorgeous neighbor Bennett, since she doesn't do relationships. I understood Avery's attraction to Bennett. He was really sweet, nice, protective, and..HOT. But for some reason, I couldn't find Bennett's attraction to Avery quite as believable. Maybe it's because we're only able to be inside Avery's head or maybe I felt him wanting to be with her happened a bit too quickly. While I had fun reading about their relationship and all the very steamy moments between them throughout the book, I didn't feel entirely connected. Also, I thought lots of different things happened near the end that made the pace seem rushed, but I am glad there was closure for Avery and Bennett's story.

Although I may not have clicked with All of You as much as I wanted, I still liked the characters and am happy I was finally able to read it. And I will definitely check out the companion novel to this book Before You Break!

Foreplay is not the first novel I've read by Sophie Jordan. However, it's the first new adult book written by her that I've read (her writing is perfect for the new adult genre!), and it's by far my favorite of her books I've read. I just loved it!

What made me enjoy Foreplay so much was the relationship between Pepper and Reece. It was hot! I felt like I had to fan myself nonstop whenever Reece was around because he was so intense. He was also patient and protective and at times vulnerable. Honestly, I was a bit jealous of Pepper (I want my own Reece!), but she was a great character as well. I liked her personality and understood the reasoning behind the choices that she made. I loved that although Pepper and Reece seemed to be completely different they were actually similar people. They have both gone through rough childhoods, and I'm glad they were able to find each other because they are perfect together and both deserved happiness.

I wish the last few chapters had the same pace as the rest of the story because I think things were resolved rather quickly. Still, it didn't take away my enjoyment of everything else. And the very end was really sweet! I'm looking forward to reading more new adult novels by Sophie Jordan, including the next book in the Ivy Chronicles.

True by Erin McCarthy

I decided to read True on a whim, not sure if I was going to like it. This book ended up surprising me though. I was glued to the story from the very beginning, and I pretty much liked everything about it, especially the characters.

Rory, the main character, was the reason why I was hooked from the start. She was hilarious and honest. I just thought it was cute how awkward she seemed when it came to social situations, yet she made it clear how much she craved interactions and romance. Tyler was another reason why I couldn't put the book down. He was the guy Rory started developing feelings for. He came off as a bad boy, but he was actually a good and caring guy. I loved their moments together, and I felt all the hard times they went through were realistic and not over dramatic, which was refreshing. I couldn't get enough!

Although I thought the ending was a bit rushed, I truly enjoyed True and definitely would like to read the rest of this series. It may not be for everyone, but I think fans of new adult novels should give it a read!

Life in Outer Space by Melissa Keil

Life in Outer Space is about a geeky sixteen-year-old named Sam. He and his friends are tormented basically everyday at school by the popular crowd because Sam and his friends are considered losers and dorks. But that all changes when the cool, new girl Camilla befriends them.

Sam's knowledge about horror and cult movies was pretty endearing. He sometimes frustrated me with the decisions he made involving his friends, but he would eventually redeem himself, which was a relief. Sam's friends Adrian, Mike, and Allison were great to read about, and I liked their hilarious interactions. Camilla was an interesting and colorful character; however, she almost seemed too good to be true. As for her relationship with Sam, even though I thought it was sweet, I wasn't that desperate for them to be together. I just didn't feel all that connected to them.

Although I felt this was a story I've heard before, this book had its cute and fun moments. If you love reading Australian novels or if you're looking for a light, contemporary read about a quirky group of friends, then you should check out Life in Outer Space.

One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy

Wow, One Week Girlfriend really impressed me! I'm not sure what I expected. I guess I just didn't realize how good it was going to be. It's definitely one of the better new adult novels I've read.

The main characters Drew and Fable were such wonderful characters, and I was totally invested in their story. There was lots of heartache and deeply emotional and shocking moments that made me wish I could go in the book and hug them both. What made me feel better, though, was their relationship. I loved them together. Their relationship, the connection they shared, was intense and sweet and completely HOT. All I wanted was to read more and more of their interactions. I could not get enough!

One Week Girlfriend was an all around addicting and amazing read. The writing was great and the story flowed so well. The ending did upset and frustrate me, but it makes me want to read the sequel Second Chance Boyfriend even more. I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

After the devastating cliffhanger in Froi of the Exiles, I was dying to read Quintana of Charyn! It was my #1 anticipated novel of the year. When I got a copy, I pretty much didn't stop for anything. Quintana of Charyn is probably one of the most satisfying conclusions I've ever read for a series. I was so happy with how everything turned out, and at the same time I was sad to see it end. I'm going to miss these characters and their intense relationships.

I wish I could write an awesome review to match the epicness of this book. It's just... Sometimes I find it a bit intimidating to review a Melina Marchetta novel. Not only because other reviewers have already said what I wanted to say in much better words, but because I'm always in such awe of her stories. It tends to leave me speechless, and I can never find the right words to describe my feelings. But trust me when I say that you should not miss out on this amazing series!

Battling Boy by Paul Pope

I only had a vague idea of what Battling Boy was about when I started reading it. But from my experience reading some of Paul Pope's other graphic novels, I knew what I was going to get: awesome artwork, a wonderful story, and badass characters!

It was easy to become immersed in Battling Boy's journey. (Yes, Battling Boy is the main character's name!) He may be young, but he was cool and hilarious. I loved that he was brave, yet unsure of himself. That uncertainty is something that I think we can all relate to, no matter our age. What I also loved about this graphic novel was the humorous and smart dialogue and the non-stop, kickass action. And with that amazing artwork, it wasn't hard at all for me to enjoy this story.

Battling Boy was just a completely fun and engaging read. The ending was a bit abrupt and made me crave more. I'm looking forward to reading the second volume, and I'm hoping we don't have to wait too long for it because I need to know what happens next with these characters!

I think I would've had a slightly different experience had I read Prince of Wolves instead of listened to the audio edition. By that I mean I don't believe I would have finished this book if I had tried reading it. The characters were annoying, and the romance was cheesy. I'm actually surprised I managed to get through the audio. But I have to say it wasn't easy to do even that. I fell asleep many times out of boredom and had to force myself to keep going. The only reason I continued to listen was because I was able to tune it out sometimes and still follow what was going on for the most part. It had a fairly predictable storyline, so that must have been why.

The narrator of the story did a pretty good job. Her narrating voice, though, was way better than the voices she used for some characters. Take Fane, for example. His accented voice combined with his cringe-worthy lines had me laughing and gave me second-hand embarrassment. He was a young wolf, but he sounded like an old, creaky Dracula. I thought I would have gotten use to it by the end or that his voice would have gotten better later on... That wasn't the case though. What this whole experience made me realize is that audiobooks just may not be for me.

Relic by Heather Terrell

In Relic, Eva decides to go through with the Testing in the place of her recently deceased brother. The Testing is a difficult and deadly ordeal where Testors use their skills and knowledge to find relics from the past in the Artic region. The whole point of it is to determine New North's next Chief Archon and to show the Aerie people how dangerous the world was back then. Sounds like the Testing would be scary and hard, right? With the way Eva flawlessly accomplishes everything, it actually seems like a walk in the park.

For the most part, this book wasn't as engaging as I had hoped. I wanted some heart-stopping action. But it was all pretty mellow. The journey to the Testing site had its moments; however, it went by rather quickly and ended up being anti-climatic. The actual Testing was the same way too. And I didn't find the whole thing with Eva and Elizabet to be interesting at all. The revelations near the end weren't surprising either, and Eva's situation with love interests Lukas and Jasper felt like the same old, same old.

While Relic may not have held my interest, it was an okay read that I was able to easily get through.

Series Review: Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods & Gregor and the Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins

This is book three in the Underland Chroincles, and it might be my favorite book in the series so far. I love the characters. Gregor, Luxa, Boots, Temp, Ripred, and Ares are all great. And I can totally understand why Ripred is Suzanne Collins's favorite character.

Since this series is for a younger audience, it's a bit more lighter and funnier than The Hunger Games. But really, it's not that much different. Sad things happen. There's war and hunger and death. And there's creepy stuff too. (Like with what happened to a bat in the previous book or the plague in this book. Really grossed me out.) There was a quote I wrote down from the first book that really made me think of The Hunger Games, but I misplaced the paper I wrote it down on. Don't want to give spoilers, so I would say it was something like....life would never be the same but at least they had each other.

Gregor and the Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins

The fifth and final book in the engrossing Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins. I think people would have been prepared for Mockingjay if they had read the Underland Chronicles first, especially this book. And I remember people complained about the epilogue in Mockingjay, and well...at least it got an epilogue

I had a couple of questions about the ending, and I planned on listing them in this review. But I think I probably just need some time to really think about it and figure it out on my own. Use my imagination, which is what Suzanne Collins would probably say to me if I asked her these questions.

Anyway, the Underland Chronicles was a thought-provoking and touching series! I wonder what Suzanne Collins' next book or series will be about.

I've been on a Malachi high lately. First it was all of his journal entries (if you've read Santcum, book one of the Guards of the Shadowlands series, you'll know that he has tons of journals that he's written in over the years since he's been in the Shadowlands) that can be found regularly updated on the Guards of the Shadowlands Tumblr page. And now there's this short story Captive!

Captive takes place during Sanctum where Malachi as Captain of the Guard first meets Lela. It's all from Malachi's perspective too. It may be short but gives enough insight to what was going on with him during that time. I loved reading what he was thinking when he saw Lela. I honestly can't get enough of them and the world found in this series, and I can't wait to read more about them in Fractured, the sequel to Sanctum!

Evanescent by Gabriella Lepore

Evanescent is about a girl named Bronwen who finds protection with three teenage boys after she discovers she is being hunted by a creature known as a Severen. The three boys aren't ordinary boys though. In fact, they've lived for 200 years already because of the dragon's blood coursing through their veins that gave them eternal life. As Bronwen falls for one of the boys and realizes there might just be a cure for them, she has to come to terms with the fact that life was never meant to be lived forever.

My favorite thing about Evanescent was Felix, the boy Bronwen fell in love with. He was funny and sarcastic. I was giggling from the very beginning because of him. I thought his personality stood out from all the characters. That being said, I can't say I ever really connected with him, the rest of the characters, or the story. I also felt the romantic feelings between him and Bronwen evolved rather quickly. I'm not sure I found their love quite believable. I guess it worked for the pace of the story though.

Speaking of the story, it was bittersweet. I kind of had a feeling where it was going by some of the reviews I read. How everything played out seemed fitting, but I still wish it had ended differently. If you don't mind bittersweet endings, you might enjoy Evanescent even more.

It does not bother me at all that Beautiful Bastard use to be fanfiction. That being said, I found this book to be just an okay read. Even though it didn't take me too long to finish, there were still instances while I was reading where I was wishing the story would hurry up and end.

Beautiful Bastard had its entertaining moments, which I felt were mostly the steamy interactions between Chloe and Bennett. The book featured both of their POVs, and I liked Bennett's more so than Chloe's. Chloe wasn't a character I ever really warmed up to. She was frustraing at times. I'm not saying Bennett wasn't frustrating himself, and I don't mean he was an amazing guy. I just found his chapters easier to get through. I didn't care that much for how their story started off with pretty much no build-up or enough insight. But hey, at least it was straight to the point like the rest of the story.

While I didn't think this book was that memorable, I think readers who are interested in this type of story (a quick-paced, erotic read) might enjoy Beautiful Bastard.

Recipe for Satisfaction by Gina Gordan

I don't think this book is bad. But my reason for the rating is because Recipe for Satisfaction is a story I've read before with just slightly different characters and the main differences being the setting and the characters' careers. A lot of the contemporary romances I've read seem to share the same basic plot. Uptight woman and bad boy, who isn't really as bad as the rumors claim, fall for each other and have the best sex of their lives with each other. But their relationship isn't suppose to be serious, so they are too afraid to admit that they're deeply in love. Complications from their past cause them to argue and fight and break off whatever they had. Someone or something brings them back together, making them realize how wrong they were, and they declare their love for each other and live happily ever after. See? I think everyone knows exactly what I mean.

I know these stories are suppose to be fun and straight to the point. And there have been some I've really enjoyed, but those were mostly the first ones I've ever read. It's not as exciting as it was in the beginning because it's the same story and I already know what's going to happen. I think readers who don't mind that at all and are just looking for a quick romantic read will no doubt have fun with this book.

At first I wasn't feeling Shade. I admit all I kept thinking was: 'This love-triangle better not get on my nerves.' And actually, it did annoy me a bit. Because all of sudden this HOT, new guy is interested in Aura for whatever reason, and Aura's boyfriend seems immature and...pretty stupid. That's why it took me forever to get through the beginning. However, once I finally read further, it wasn't that bad. So the love-triangle ended up not bothering me, which was a good thing.

As for everything else that happened in the book, I really enjoyed it. Thought it was very interesting and unique. I really wanted to know exactly what was up with Aura and Zach. At the same time, not sure it's enough to make me want to pick up the sequel. I haven't heard good things about book two, which is too bad. It seemed like a promising series.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay was so different from what I imagined it would be like. I went through so many emotions reading this book just like with the previous two novels in the Hunger Games series. But I have to say that while reading some of the last few chapters of this one...I was left with a feeling of wanting more. I wouldn't say it was rushed. Maybe I didn't want it to end. Maybe I was reading too fast. I don't know how to explain it. It all probably needs to sink in.

Anyway, yes, I loved it. Mockingjay had some really amazing moments. And of course, there were a lot of dark, sad, scary moments that shocked me and almost made me cry. I could go on and on, but I'm still a bit shocked. So, I will say that the ending was bittersweet. And I got a bit teary-eyed. It was an unexpected and fascinating end to an awesome series.

Reviews: Belonging by Kelley Armstrong & Knight Angels: Book of Love by Abra Ebner

I adore Derek Souza! It was so great reading from his point of view. Belonging is a novella that takes place a few months after the events in The Reckoning, the final book in the Darkest Powers trilogy. We learn a bit more about the wolf side of Derek's family. What I loved the most though were the times he thought about Chloe and the moments he shared with her. It was too adorable! He's very protective of her and he goes overboard sometimes, but he tries really hard not to be overbearing. It's a good thing Chloe's really tough and always sets him straight. They really do make such a great team and perfect couple.

One last thing I can't help but to add: I was neutral towards Aunt Lauren in the books, but after reading this novella.... ARGH! I cannot stand that woman! Anyway, if you're a huge Chloe/Derek fan like me, I suggest you check out this wonderful short story.

Knight Angels: Book of Love by Abra Ebner

I liked all the main characters: Max, Jane, Wes, and Emily. But I didn't feel quite as connected to Max and Jane as I did Wes and Emily. Maybe it's because Max and Jane's relationship started off similarly to what I've read in other books. And I guess I felt more drawn to the other type of relationship I don't believe I've read about before. Wes and Emily had some pretty hot moments that I loved! There is, however, a major difference in Max and Jane's relationship that I think sets them apart from the couples in those other books, and it's this: Jane isn't so...innocent! Max on the other hand... haha Well, I really liked that! Because usually the boy has more experience or both are just "new to this," if you know what I mean.

I really wanted to know more about the angels and other beings, especially Jane's father and Greg. I am feeling a bit iffy about Greg's reason for why he turned against his family. I don't know... It didn't seem hardcore; hopefully, there's more to it. But other than that, I really enjoyed this book, and I wouldn't mind reading the sequel.
